What is the Improved Postal ID?

The Postal ID, issued by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost), is one of the easiest valid government IDs to obtain — no minimum income, employment, or membership required. The Improved Postal ID is a modern PVC card with security features like an encrypted QR code, UV ink, a ghost image, and AFIS fingerprint verification, making it widely accepted for banking, transactions, and identification.

How much does a Postal ID cost?

The fee is ₱550 for regular processing, which already includes door-to-door delivery. A rush option adds ₱100 (₱650 total). Delivery takes roughly 15 working days within Metro Manila, about 20 in major provinces, and up to 30 in remote areas. The card is valid for 3 years (or longer for some applicants).

      What you need to apply

You'll complete two copies of the application form and present proof of identity (a PSA birth certificate, passport, or other valid government ID) plus proof of address (a recent utility bill, barangay certificate, or bank statement). Bring originals and photocopies. Biometrics — your photo and fingerprints — are captured at the post office.

      Why get a Postal ID?

It's accessible to almost anyone, including students, homemakers, and the unemployed, who may not qualify for other IDs. Because it's government-issued and now hard to forge, it's accepted in most places that require a valid ID, making it a practical first ID to secure.

      FAQ

      Can foreigners apply?

Yes. Foreign residents can apply with their passport plus a valid visa or ACR I-Card and proof of address, though their card validity may be shorter.

Do I need to come back to collect it?

No — the fee includes delivery to your address, so the card is mailed to you after processing. You only visit the post office once to apply and have your biometrics taken.

Is the Postal ID accepted by banks?

Yes, the Improved Postal ID is generally accepted as a primary valid ID by banks and government offices thanks to its security features.
