Philippine passport requirements at a glance
Applying for a Philippine passport is handled by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). What you need depends on whether it's a first-time (new) application or a renewal, and how fast you want it processed. This checker shows the requirements, the total fee, and the steps for your case. The single most important rule: book your appointment only at the official site, passport.gov.ph — appointments are free, and fixers are not allowed.
How much does a Philippine passport cost?
The DFA charges ₱950 for regular processing and ₱1,200 for expedited processing, plus a ₱50 convenience fee at authorized payment centers. Regular processing takes about 10 working days in Metro Manila (12 in the provinces), while expedited is around 5 working days (7 in the provinces).
New application vs. renewal
A first-time applicant must prove citizenship and identity with a PSA-issued birth certificate and a valid government ID. A renewal is simpler — your old passport is the main proof, so you generally just bring it (plus a photocopy of the data page). In both cases you print the application packet that's emailed to you after paying online.
Minors and special cases
Passports for minors require additional documents, including the parents' IDs and, in some cases, a personal appearance of a parent. Lost, damaged, or name-change passports also have extra requirements such as an affidavit of loss or supporting civil documents. Check the DFA site for these specific cases.
FAQ
Can I walk in without an appointment?
Generally no — the DFA runs an appointment system at passport.gov.ph. Some courtesy lanes exist for seniors, PWDs, OFWs, and pregnant women, but most applicants must book online first.
How long is a Philippine passport valid?
Adult passports are valid for 10 years; passports for minors are valid for 5 years. Renew before it expires, especially if you travel, since many countries require at least 6 months of validity.
Is the appointment really free?
Yes. Booking an appointment costs nothing — you only pay the passport processing fee. Avoid sites or individuals charging extra just to secure a slot.
